Snorkel Smart

Hilo’s coast is real ocean. A few rules keep you safe.

  • Check conditions first. Look at the wind and swell before you go.
  • Never snorkel alone. Bring a buddy and keep each other in sight.
  • Watch your entry and exit. Lava rock is sharp and slick. Time it with the waves.
  • Give honu space. Stay at least 10 feet away and never touch them.
  • Use reef-safe sunscreen. And keep your fins off the coral.

FAQs

Do you have prescription masks?

Yes. Note it when you book so we can have one ready.

When can I pick up my gear?

Any time during shop hours. Online booking may show 9:00 AM, but that is just a default.

How does multi-day pricing work?

Pay the 24 hour price for the first day, then $2.50 per item for each extra day. A mask, snorkel, and fins for 3 days is $35.

My mask keeps fogging. What do I do?

Use defog. We sell it at the shop, and it makes a big difference.

Where should I snorkel?

It depends on the day. Ask our staff when you pick up your gear and we will point you to the best spot for the conditions.

What is the difference between renting and a tour?

Renting is gear only. On a tour we drive you, pick the spot, guide you in the water, and include a float belt, defog, fish identification, and snacks.
