About Your Scuba Rental

Rent everything you need for scuba diving in Hilo! Explore the island’s underwater landscapes without the hassle of traveling with heavy gear. We offer daily rentals on all the necessities, including BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, vests, fins, masks, snorkels, booties, and air tanks.

Tank Rental Policy

To rent scuba tanks, each diver must provide their certification number. Please include this information in your reservation through FareHarbor.

  • Maximum of 2 tanks per person, per day
  • Maximum of 2 rental days

Requests for more than 2 tanks per day require documentation: proof of instructor certification, liability insurance, student roster, dive plan, and a valid dive site permit. These policies are in place to ensure safety and compliance with local regulations.

Booking Info

Online bookings may show a default time of 9:00 AM, but scuba gear can be picked up any time during shop hours.

Who Can Rent Our Gear

All three need to line up to rent scuba gear with Hilo Ocean Adventures: You, Your Purpose, and Your Skill.

You – fit and ready to dive today

  • Sober (no alcohol or drugs)
  • Healthy enough to dive (no recent surgery, able to equalize, etc.)
  • Upfront with us about your dive plan
  • Person grabbing gear needs to be certified
  • Valid ID and deposit for the gear
  • In good standing, no history of lost or damaged rentals

Your Purpose – legal and reef-safe

  • No spearfishing on scuba
  • No collecting coral, rock, shells, or marine life
  • No feeding or chasing wildlife (turtles, dolphins, and seals are federally protected)
  • No closed or restricted areas
  • No use of our gear to run your own Scuba course

Your Skill – training and experience match the dive

  • Valid certification, shown at pickup
  • Cert matches the dive (depth, wreck, cavern, night)
  • Dived recently (12+ months out, we’ll recommend a refresher; 2+ years, refresher required)
  • Going solo? Self-Reliant cert and redundancy required (pony/spare air, backup mask, second computer, SMB)
  • Comfortable handling your own gear and the day’s conditions
