About the Course
Refresh your scuba skills in Hilo. If it has been a while since your last dive, this pool based refresher is designed to help you regain comfort, confidence, and familiarity with scuba equipment and core skills before returning to open water.
This experience takes place entirely in our heated indoor pool and is led by professional instructors who tailor the session to your experience level and comfort. The focus is on skill review, problem management, and confidence building rather than certification.
What You’ll Review
- Safety protocols and best practices
- Underwater hand signals and diver communication
- Gear assembly, fit, and pre dive equipment checks
- Basic dive science and situational awareness
- Proper weighting, buoyancy control, and trim
- Regulator recovery, mask clearing, and emergency skills as needed
Why Take a Refresher?
Even experienced divers can feel rusty after time away from the water. A refresher helps ensure you are confident, safe, and prepared before participating in shore dives, boat dives, or continuing education.
HOA policy requires a mandatory refresher for any diver who has not been diving within the past two years. This policy is in place to maintain safety standards and ensure a positive experience for all divers.
After Your Refresher
This refresher is a pool only activity. For divers who want to return to the ocean, an optional shore dive or boat dive may be added for an additional cost, subject to instructor approval, conditions, and availability.
Your instructor will help determine the best next step based on your comfort level and diving goals.
