Taking it somewhere? Vehicle mount kits are free. Pick up any time during shop hours. Renters must be 18 or older.

Paddle Smart
Hilo has calm river water and open bay water. Know which one you are getting into.
- Start calm. The Wailoa River and Reeds Bay are the most protected water in town.
- Check the wind. Out in the bay, wind picks up in the afternoon. Paddle out against it, so it pushes you home.
- Wear your life jacket. Every time, even on the river.
- Tell someone your plan. Where you are going and when you will be back.
- Give honu space. Stay at least 10 feet away and never touch them.
FAQs
Single or double?
Doubles are great for couples or a parent with a kid. Singles give you full control.
Can I take the kayak somewhere else?
Yes. Vehicle mount kits are free with every rental.
When can I pick up?
Any time during shop hours. Online booking may show 9:00 AM, but that is just a default.
Where should I paddle?
It depends on the day. Ask our staff when you pick up and we will point you to the best water for the conditions.
What if I damage it?
We inspect every kayak before and after. You are responsible for damage, and repair or replacement costs may be charged.
