About the Tour
Glide on a stand-up paddleboard along the scenic Wailoa River—“Loa,” meaning “long water”—paddling beneath graceful dragon arches and through lush mangrove-lined channels in the heart of Hilo.
As you travel toward the King Kamehameha statue, your guide will share stories about how historic tsunamis shaped this unique riverside arboretum of globally significant trees. Along the way, keep an eye out for native birds and freshwater fish moving through the calm riverbanks.
While much of the route follows protected sections of the river, natural conditions such as light wind, tidal movement, or gentle current may influence the pace of the paddle.
Note: River spray and paddle splashes are part of the adventure—you will likely get wet!
