About the Experience
Explore vibrant Hilo reefs up close without the commitment of a scuba certification course. Under the supervision of an experienced professional, take your first breaths in the open ocean after a short training session in the pool.
Your program includes 45 minutes of classroom, 45 minutes of confined water (pool), and a 45 minute ocean dive led by professional instructors. One air tank, snacks, and beverages are included.
This experience follows official PADI Discover Scuba Diving guidance.
What You’ll Do
- Experience the magic of underwater breathing, and learn core safety procedures.
- Practice essential skills in a heated indoor pool with direct, personalized coaching.
- Complete a guided ocean dive for about 45 minutes and explore Hilo’s reef environment.
- Look for reef fish, coral formations, and honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles).
Upgrade to Open Water Diver
Many guests start with Discover Scuba Diving and then decide they want to become certified. If you love your intro dive, our team can help you plan the next step toward becoming a certified diver.
The next step is the PADI Open Water Diver Course, an internationally recognized certification that allows you to dive independently with a buddy up to 18 m / 60 ft worldwide. If you are visiting Hawai‘i Island with a flexible schedule, we recommend planning your trip so you have time to upgrade after your intro dive.
Who Can Join
- Anyone over the age of 10! Must understand detailed instruction in English and be able to carry 50 lbs of gear unassisted.
- Complete and submit the Diver Medical Questionnaire 72 hours prior to the excursion (provided after booking).
- Participants must successfully complete the classroom and confined water portions to proceed to the ocean dive.
