About the Tour
This 2.5-mile guided kayak adventure takes you across one of the most expansive and visible stretches of ocean on the Big Island. The calm, deep-blue waters of Hilo Bay provide a dramatic backdrop and a peaceful paddling experience.
Along the way, you’ll pass Coconut Island (Moku Ola), a small isle once known as a healing sanctuary for warriors. According to local legend, those who swam around the island three times would be cured of their ailments.
What You’ll See
- Views of historic Hilo Town, shaped by its sugar plantation roots and vibrant sampan fishing fleet
- Stories of resilience after two devastating tsunamis in 1946 and 1960
- Sea turtles gliding through the lagoon as you paddle under the iconic Singing Bridge
- Optional stop to swing from banyan trees over the calm waters
- Finish at the stunning Wailuku River waterfalls, a hidden gem few get to see from this perspective
The Singing Bridge
You’ll pass under the famous Singing Bridge — a repurposed railway bridge that now carries the Hawaiʻi Belt Road. As cars cross above, the steel grid deck below hums a soft, melodic tone that gives this landmark its name.
